 | The book is about a 14 year old girl named Ida Bidson. She lives in Elk Valley, Colorado. Ida's dream is to go on to high school and become a school teacher, except something goes wrong. Miss Fletcher (Ida's school teacher) is forced to leave to Iowa because her mother had had a stroke and she has to care for her. With this happening so fast the school board cannot find a replacement for Miss Fletcher. The school board decides to close down the school till the next fall semester. | This book takes place during World War l. During the war Ellis Warne, the son of an Irish doctor, gets critically injured. He gets a piece of shrapnel imbedded un his leg. In able to save at least part of his leg, they amputated it. This book tells of a fight for racial freedom as well as religious. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good book.
