 | The book is about a 14 year old girl named Ida Bidson.
She lives in Elk Valley, Colorado. Ida's dream is to go on to high school
and become a school teacher, except something goes wrong. Miss Fletcher
(Ida's school teacher) is forced to leave to Iowa because her mother had had
a stroke and she has to care for her. With this happening so fast the school
board cannot find a replacement for Miss Fletcher. The school board decides
to close down the school till the next fall semester. This means that Ida
cannot get credit for her school year and cannot take her exit exam to pass
on to high school. So Ida, with the help of her friend Tom Kohl, decides to
start a secret school. There is just one catch to this. Ida is the teacher!
Everything in this secret school was going well until Miss Sedgewick shows
up at the school. Ida confesses to her that this "school" is being run
without permission from the county school board. So, to find out what

critically injured. He gets a piece of shrapnel imbedded un his leg. In able
to save at least part of his leg, they amputated it. This book tells of a
fight for racial freedom as well as religious. I would recommend this book
to anyone who enjoys a good book. This is a book that really touched my
